Mudgie
MemberI have been out cycling with Nacho probably 6 days out of every 7 – We do a 8 mile loop. Have a country park at back of house but if you go in at beginning of estate there is a well trodden track that is easy to cycle on.
Anyhow it is pretty much up hill first part for about 3 miles then we do a flat around a reservoir for another 2 then back down the 3 miles (Nacho does this at full pelt) Back legs in unison absolutely fantastic to watch  He runs along side me although on the way up I let him go in front as I am cycling probably a little faster than walking speed as it is a steep incline.
So the question is – can he become addicted to this ::) He no longer interested in going out with ball – just wants to go out with bike. At weekends we probably do around 20 miles each day. If I go out without him he is not a happy bunnie :'( When I get bike organised he is soooooo excited.
He sleeps so much better when we have been cycling (mind you so do I ;D) I find it a great stress release and it has been such lovely weather. His muscles look great.June 26, 2009 at 8:52 pm #73448kizkiznobite
Memberyes mudgie he can…he can become addicted to the adren rush…a major adren rush can take 3 days to disperse so if he topping up because you going daily then he may become addicted….

Memberso i should only do it with him so often then ??? He wont like that ??? I wont like that either – I love him with me ;D
What should I do then ? Cut his runs down or jusst make sure I keep the routine up with him. He loves it. I dont want his heart to be under strain if he is getting too much adrenaline.

Membermmm… i need to think me thinks…i guess …and i just blowing bubbles here at the moment…but i guess then it needs to be done without the build up obsessive weim rush so it the norm healthy adren to do the job without him having to do cold turkey if it not topped up etc…
will do some research over the weekend and consult a man that can for his opinion…
also will contact a previous client….i know he did the we not going if you being stupid and he a major league bike racer ..the one i mentioned in lauras thread re light…that dog certainly doesnt have a adren addiction so it achievable
nice to get a q that i got to research …. 🙂

Memberokay thanks Bev – will let him have his cycles over the weekend and wait until I hear back from you. ;D
He potters about on way up quite happy sniff sniff tracking most of way around the top he is in and out of water – lots of stimulus for him especially at weekends cos we are out around 7ish when the ground is undisturbed. it is really the journey down that is the adrenalin surge but I suppose he has that before we go cos he knows what is coming.
Looking forward to hearing your response

Memberanswer from the man that can….
‘For a dog to develop a routine whereby s/he is not in control of her/his impact on the environment, and the environment’s impact on her/him , due to influences such as trained behaviour /training and focus requirement; especially on owner, then s/he has to perform acts that reward and punish at the same time. Both the drive, the developed obsession and the desire to please will be stronger than avoidance of pain for this to happen, so in short s/he will become “an adrenaline junkie”’
