MemberI have a problem with these sorts of things I really wanted to repy on the CM topic but was just so busy I did not get a chance.
I have in my time seen some terrible training and some doG awful trainers some may remember Barbara Woodhouse, Bev may shoot me for this but I would say in some cases anything is better than nothing, I have now sat and watched Mr CM not that I agree with his type of training but for the most the rescues are still rescued and the others are still with owners, lets not forget the USA has a terrible dog and stray problem, so again I don’t personally agree with the views seen on the TV.
If he helps one dog a week which I am sure he does more than that even for a TV programme then thats one or two dogs not living or being PTS in rescues looking through his collection of dogs most are dogs that would have been PTS in the USA.
Same goes for that silly woman Victoria Stilwell, what I would like to know is what is the alternative, I live in a world of understanding my dogs and I have the choice to breed train or not, a lot of people do not have that choice lets remember we don’t all have a Bev on our doorstep, A heck of a lot of so called trainers are not trained, a lot of towns in the UK do not even have an untrained trainer anywhere near where they live, let alone a trained one, if dog owners can find a qualified trainer they can’t get in the classes because they are always full, I ran training classes for years both for the general dog owner and my breed BUT I was never trained LOL only in life and understand what makes dogs tick.
Will be interested in replies as nobody that posted in the CM topic would agree with me

val you have said it well ;DJuly 20, 2009 at 1:30 pm #112612*Lassie*
MemberI can understand your point of view Val.
Some of the best trainers can be the ones that are not qualified in the same way some of the worse trainers are qualified know it all on paper but turned over 2 pages at a time ::)
We all know people that are good at learning from books but have no common sense.
Most petitions are a waste of time but if it gets people talking or more importantly thinking then that can only be good.July 20, 2009 at 2:13 pm #112613.dodger.
Memberi think that is one of the things that took me a while to understand Val…. I used to watch CM and think that it was a ‘cruel’ way of training (shock, prong collars ect) but the dog always seemed ‘fixed’ at the end of it all…. I believed that the end result outweighted the training methods used to get there but now i know of the ‘correct’ way of training that’s better for both dog and owner i no longer think like that.
it seems to me the owners fail their dogs twice first they fail by not getting help as soon as they need it then bring in cm what a way to make money choking dogs and what is most upsetting is the owners think he is wonderful if he put a prong choke on my boy i would swing for him and shove it somewhere painfulJuly 24, 2009 at 7:52 pm #112615kerrie and stan
Memberi am not defending CM but he has said that he doesnt like using prong collars but he will use them if the owner insists on it
I agree! What a load of bull, id tell the owner to take a running jump ::) We have a customer who walks his SWD on a prong collar, he knows fine well we certainly wouldn’t ever consider putting that around his or any dogs neck.
