Seriously considering a barge holiday with nooch pooch – a long weekend to start with I think.

Would like to do proper sailing with him eventually but thought canal boat would be good start to get him used to going on and off.  Obviously with canal boat toileting wont be an issue so kinda want to start easy before we do the real stuff.

Anyone ever been sailing with doggie  ???

Suz ask her about toileting in boat – imagine she would use the stern step

Also does she use buoy harnesses for them ? and if so can you ask if there is any preference of make.

    Thanks.

what kinda boat – and how do you deal with toileting needs  ;D

The canal boat wont be an issue but when we are properly sailing I think we will have to adapt a toilet area off back of boat as sometimes we sail for days without moorings

mudge spoke to my workmate – just forgot this!

toileting they stop roughly every four hours and let dogs off – but if they CANT then dogs got an area to go in – which if they NEED to go they will, easy i guess if on cue?

and life jackets – she takes dogs to be specially fitted out…………..

A 2 masts MS Cotter. From WF4-5 we use the sails.

    That what we do.

Never done that, but that depends on the water tides for us. I drive onto a sandbank and let the boat lay dry. Dogs can run around ànd swim, and we can look for live bait and eatable things. It’s like being on your own private beach. Just this beach disapears in a few hours time.

    Never used those.

No Suz, not because they got more weight. More out of…..  ??? don’t know  :-\ .
Human lifejackets are required by law so…. Safely tucket away, but there if they are needed. I have only worn one once. Boat was not sinking, but WF9 and i really thought we were NOT going to survive  :scared: . The boys…. so far only one of my dogs ever tried jumping out of the boat. But that been a looong time ago. Said enough what he thought about me sailing ha?  ::) Hahaha. Nah, it was dumb. Bird sat on the railing. Flew away, boy jumped after :ugly: . He swam a little and than we dragged his arse back on the boat.  😛
Cotter, seaworthy, round bottom, not nodded, ……. best boats build  :ok: .

I don’t know if this makes any sence to you all, i literally translated some of our words
cause i don’t know the enlgish words for it.  :-[

We have a Cromarty – would only leave it in emergency to go to dinghy if I had to step Up onto dinghy  ;D  I know sailors who have went into dinghy and died and boat still found afloat.  ;D
