Guestthe other day i read that the government want to make it law that all dogs are chipped to stop strays ect it wont work the bad owners wont bother only the good ones it also said that a dog died due to the chip both my dog and cat are chipped i choose to do it has anyone heard bad things about chips when i had farrokh chipped the vet never told me that they move or that a dog died are they a good thing i wonder and will all the vets tell you what could happen before they put the chip in as losing a much loved pet would be awful when you did it for your pet i think owners should be told the bad as well as the good

MemberI’ve always thought getting your pet mircochipped was the best thing to do, i think if pups are done early there is a small chance it could move but i’ve never heard of a dog dying from it before? Maybe someone else will know.
Working at the vets i see how important it can be; the amount of cats/dogs we get handed in or reported lost that aren’t microchipped is really sad, especially when the pet has been hurt.August 27, 2009 at 8:50 am #112750kerrie and stan
Memberi have heard about the chip moving but this was only when very young pups have been chipped and as they have grown it has moved
i did get stan chipped as soon as i got him but i didnt get my pup chipped until he was nearly 1 year old.the problem with ID chips is that it isnt compulsary for every dog and cat to be scanned when they are handed into a police station, vet or rescue center

Memberwe always get Fritz rescanned when we go in to the vets – to check that it hasn’t migrated anywhere it shouldn’t..

MemberI’ve heard of them moving before too but not dogs dying from it – I guess it depends where it moves too :-\
Thing is if they do move, what can be done about it – I think the scanner picks up the rough area of where it is not an exact point :-\

MemberI agree that dogs should be permanently identified however I disagree with chipping being mandatory; I think owners should have the choice of either chipping or tattooing; one of my dogs has both.

Memberi would love to get stan tattood because i think they are more likely to be found than a chip but no-one down here does it

MemberHave you checked the NDTR site?
If this is the case why not train to be a tattooer yourself?

Memberi have checked the NTDR and there is no-one here that does it. there is a person that comes down every now and then but not one based here.

MemberClipping or Tattoo is a personal thing I do neither but if you are going for one or the other clip is best as if doG forbid she did get lost then more places will look for a chip also if she was tattoo’ed you won’t be able to read the number by the time she is an adult it will be hidden in her fluff if it’s an ear, if it’s a groin then they look even less as this is not a recognized place to do it and can still be hidden by fluff
