Ok, I know a few people on here have used and recommended Sudocrem for dogs and I have used it in the past! Sky’s paw’s been a little saw lately, possible pollen allergy, so I’ve been applying a little bit of Sudocrem to help it heal! Is it safe if they lick it???  ??? I can’t find it now but I read somewhere that a particular ingredient in it is poisonous to dogs, can anyone shed some light on this at all please?  :help:

I’m not sure of the side effects of Sudocrem if she licked it but I use Hypercal cream on my dog wounds / sore bits.  It is Calendula based and a natural ointment.  :ok:

I prefer Hypercal cream, I alway think as  Sudocrem is mainly a nappy rash cream I feel it’s too much of a barrier cream.
The best one Nat is  Quistel Organic Bio-restoring Dog Spray Lotion

Sudocrème is a barrier cream indeed. Works great for skin that are prone to eczema too. On humans that is  :-\ .

Never heard of Hypercal, is that human or dog cream?

You can buy Hypercal in boots or Holland and Barratts it’s like a natural version of savlon cream.  You can use it on dogs and humans.  It’s made by Nelsons, the same who do the the tree tea cream and arnica too.

Sorry to rain on your parade Nat but Tea Tree can be an irritation for some dogs even when diluted it can also be toxic if taken internally.
    I know in a cream it’s a dilute but if she’s a licker  :nono:
Lisa was just saying tea tree is made by the same company Nelson

Hypercal cream is one that contains calendula and hypericum.

Calendula is a Marigold, and can be taken internally but is more usually used topically to aid healing.

Hypericum is St Johns Wort, often used as an anti depressant. It does have some drawbacks one of which it can make the skin hypersensitive to sunlight! It too can be used internally or topically,

I agree that Quistel range of products is second to none, you could also use Aloe Vera which is soothing and healing and of course is safe to be taken internally.

Just because a product is “natural” does not mean it is safe!

Sudocrem will also make a big mess when used other than inside nappies or gloves!

Ok thanks…. using the Quistel spray, I’ve had it ages just never thought to use it on a sore foot. Is very good stuff though, I always used the shampoo for Piper and have used it on Sky already  🙂

Thàt’s not entirely true. It will only become ‘a big mess’ if you use waaaaay too much of the stuff. It’s a barrier cream, even when applied thin, there is no need to use a thick layer.

I must just be a slob, it sticks everywhere with me and I get white streaks!  ;D

One of the reasons I never use it on babies, I find other stuff less intrusive!
