when she turned back…lucy had got up to ‘watch over’ him….look at the interaction…and the way she blocks him when he moves lengthways….fascinating

she had been doing this sort of thing since day one…if he needed a nappychange…she would nose up his bum and then go running to tell dad/mum

is he ok??

Fantastic, what a gawjuss baby and stunning Staffie 😀 It’s so true though, they are amazing with kids, even older ones! My friend visited with her 3 kids a few weeks ago and sky just followed the youngest one round all the time, he’s 2! She did the nose up the bum thing when he needed a nappy change too 😀

yep…it their genetics….have researched loads about staffie nannies when they were kept in the potteries but had never seen it in action…when he cries she does ‘do something do something’ and now the little monster has started to throw food he doesnt want to her over the edge of his high chair ::)

Dexters like that with Aeryn – recently was walking the two boys to the park, manny got attacked by this american bulldog sometime back ( long story but has taken me months to get him anywhere near sociable) anyway the fookin thing was only off the lead AGAIN, comes running over takes one look at manny and launched himself ( mannys screeaming the second he seen it which didnt help!!) anyways manny is unfortunately right behind aeryns buggy and this dog didnt give a shit how it got to manny long as he got him – except dex doesnt like dogs that do that round aeryn, in his whole life ive never seen my calm gentle boy turn like that – he literally knocked the thing off its feet, and good thing as it missed aeryns face by centimetres :nono: thankfully the owner then grabbed his dog as dex still was in full on im gonna bite your bloody face off!! thankfully hes still brill with other dogs but he def very protective of aeryn…….but weirdly its manny she loves, its manny she feeds – she never feeds the others just manny…….

Great pic’s Bev,great to see people who trust their dog with a young baby,Dylan has a friend for life 🙂

Trav is still the same with Niamh doesn’t leave her out of his sight for a minute,still brings her down to the floor if she doesn’t listen to us while we are out for walks,although she realises now that if the boy catches up to her she must come back with him to Mum and Dad,but he syill holds onto her arm to bring her back 🙂

when nic posted the pics about the various bully forums he did get some stick :canadian: :canadian: :canadian: but it about knowing your dog…the way you raise the baby…setting the boundaries…teaching the dog what you will allow and what you want …not panicking and getting stressed and yelling and excluding…and importantly establishing trust…so many folk only try to alter the routines once babe has arrived but the thinking and work has to be put in first…
ok…so nic has a behaviourist for a mum and i worked with them when they first rescued lucy ( and minstral who is now an old boy of 14 bless him)…nic was raised with numerous dogs and numerous kids from friends and family and debbie was also raised with dogs and experience helps…but they had a plan in place about the basics like introductions, toys etc long before they came back from the maternity hospital… lucy is a licker….that had always been ok..in fact kisses were the norm but debbie did not want new born babe been washed from head to toe by a muddy dog for example….so they trained the kiss/no kiss while she was preggies..and put it on cue.
no dog should be left with a babe or tot…but especially a dog that is not reliable..
dylan is now 9 months and at that age of just starting to understand some of his behaviours are not acceptable….so now it time to train the baby….he already knows and understands that he can pull himself up on his feet by holding lucy’s collar but not minstals…he knows that if he crawls upto minstral then he sits and pats head but if he goes to lucy he can play and reach for her paws or play with toys with more action….this is because debbie and nic have taught him what is acceptable and tolerated by each dog…
it not just something that happens….leave it to suck and see and you got a potential time bomb…and then mum ends up stressed…dog ends up in rescue…
there is another pic that will look for….dylan is sitting on floor eating a biscuit and lucy is lying right next to him to eating a bone…both know that my biscuit my bone rule is in place…debbie knows and trusts lucy with a bone as a resource…minstral on the other hand is out the room with his…
takes work… not chance 🙂

Totally makes sense doesn’t it 🙂 I showed Matt these pics last night and he was really moved by them, found it fascinating but like you say its gotta be done right 🙂

A 4 year old, with puppies less than 5 weeks old – gently playing together and both learning alot. (These are of Flash’s sisters Cuckoo and Kia).

Picked the dogs up today – aeryn was so delighted to see them – i know we havent worked as hard as bevs son with the dogs……….but she knows what she can and cant do – shes fascinated by honey – but i have never ever once seen her do more than sit by her,the boys on the other hand she plays with etc!

Think small Kids that live with animals pick up on dogs/cats body language quicker than we do. We had cats when Si was a babe, every photo I have of him as a babe or toddler there is a cat on it. He knew from a very early age what each cat would tolerate and interacted with them accordingly.

lots of stuff in news this week after a ‘staffie’ attack…thought i would update…and…just to say to the google guests? this is a ‘rescue’ staffie…way you raise them…dog and kiddy ….

watch that vid again and again…hear my son’s word…look at lucy’s body language…see the waggy tail..and the ears back and the swops and dylan grabbing paw and lucy copying that with a paw thwack…you a behaviourist? ok fine…get out of your box hun because you not reading the communication here and if you not able to ‘read’ the communication then you not able to work with dogs and charge decent folk money…ok?….simples

off to find who you really are 😉
