Memberi’m bumping this because i have a problem.
when Bev had Max, she noticed that other entire girls hated him. all others were fine, including entire boys. in fact they were very nice to him.
she suggested having a sex hormone profile done which i did and it has come back as a probable testicular tumor. his testosterone was v high and so was his eostrogen.
treatment is castration and then test the levels again in a few months time, or, sperm sample to more properly diagnose, then castration if positive.
castration without firm diagnosis seems pretty drastic but the vet had consulted a specialist and that was his opinion. it couldnt be any other cause, although he is extremely young to have it.
does anyone know how they get a sperm sample? or any other reason why his sex hormones are so out of kilter?

GuestI would give Keith Shea a ring on 01772 690014 he maybe able to help or suggest someone that will do it.
But why do you want to get a sperm sample this will not tell you if he has a growth or not and it might entail finding a teaser bitch as thats the best way to get a sample

MemberVal, the vet spoke so fast without gaps lol, i had to keep butting in to ask her questions and write things down.
as far as i can remember, she said that the high hormone levels were a sign of seminoma. to be sure, a sperm sample could be taken as that is where the rogue cells would be. or words to that effect.
he has no lumps other than what should be there and that the hormone levels are the first sign before any lumps have developed or testicle becoming abnormally large. that is when they usually pick it up as people dont ask for a sex hormone profile.
she had a hard time convincing labs to do it. they said they only needed to do testosterone levels.
:-\ not sure what to think really. the vet is waiting for me to book Max in for castration.

GuestWell if he was mine I would want a second opinion before the chop , there are vets all over the UK that do sperm checks as a lot of breeders bring in and send out dog sperm they also get dogs checked for all sorts of things.
Sadly it’s not an area that I have studied as I do not keep male dogs never have done like my girlies
I know there is a vet called English? that does a lot of this work but have not a clue about anymore information.
Maybe someone else will have why not phone the KC
