MemberHi all I was pointed in this direction by one of your forum members for some advise.
I have a 20month old GSD who came from an animal shelter 10 months ago. We knew she had some ‘issues’ but not being new to dogs I didnt think them a problem.
We were told she had not been socialised as a pup as would need this doing as she goes crazy on lead when she sees another dog and had no manners.Well no manners was an understatement!! We have come a very long way since then and she is perfectly mannered within the house and offlead has very good recall. We also had to teach leave it very quickly as she loves small children!!!
She has been to dog classes hoping to socialise her better but with no success, it made her worse. I spoke to a behaviourist on the phone who said this was the worst thing to do.
So now I dont know what to do , we cant take her on days out because she comes across as very aggressive on lead and makes others scared and us miserable and I am sure its not good for her either.
We have tried distraction techniques to no avail, she is on a gencon so I do have control but I want to walk her whereever I go and with the kids but really at my wits end with this one.Can anyone help or point me in the direction of someone local who doesnt want hundreds of pounds?
Thanks for reading all this. x

MemberHi nice to “meet” you 🙂
Where abouts are you located ? I’m sure somebody will have some suggestions.
I belong to a GSD club & we get lots of Dogs coming to us with little or no “manners”, both of how to interact with Dogs & people.
We have enough instructors as to offer one to one instruction, away from the main group.
Also we have some “safe” Dogs that do not wind up the enthusiastic ones, so are a calming influence.
I’m sure there is similar in your area.
You sound like you’ve come a long way in 10 Months though.September 2, 2008 at 4:13 pm #77707Sweetypye

MemberThanks for the link, it is a long way from me though, I am the other side of Northants about 30 mins from Northampton itself.
The problem I have with travelling is I have a child with special needs and at the moment, cannot be too far away and Oxfordshire is quite a distance. xSeptember 2, 2008 at 5:31 pm #77709**Woofums**

MemberWoohoo Bev, we made it to the wooden post!!! Have also worked out it cant be done with an umbrella lol
So sopping wet but very pleased we got a few yards with heel close and she waited on her own accord for me to come back through the gate. ;D
Once she realised she wasnt going any further she soon got the message.
