6 weeks away Laura – no taking different dogs, a white standard and a young stripped cocker……..next one is about 6 weeks after that – either be taking the same dogs or swapping the white standard for the black mini ( if she has enough coat shes being clipped down on friday!!) when the comps are so close together sometimes its easier to take the same dogs – is hard getting so many dogs ready  😀

    no worries suz 🙂

couldnt you bribe black poodles owner with a free tidy up or something to stop her having her clipped off?

just out of interest – i was wondering how they judge x-breeds ?  come to think of it how do they judge full stop ?  do they take any of the dogs characteristics into account or is it purely on “the groom” (e.g. if the coat is a little odd for the breed and it affects exactly how the cut is supposed to lie?) do they care about having well / healthy dogs in terms of tests and breeding ?

is that standard what they call “parti” ?

all the doggies look lovely 😀

is there a particular reason the little poodles are done with a bare bum like lowchens are ?  did this have a working purpose ?  gosh look at me full of questions for once !!!

Blimey Claire one question at a time lol!!

Fistly – email me so we can reaarange a sunday yes?  :-*

The mini poodle has free grooms anyway  😉 but im clipping her down as shes super itching and has torn her neck coat, she is such a hot dog so shorter trim for her – and shehad that trim just becuase i like to do something different – i would of done a banded topknot but she didnt have enough hair  😉

that standard is SILVER not a parti dont let his mum see that lol!! The colour develps as they get old he should still go a little more silver yet!

As for the judging depends – some will judge more on the scissoring, others on how well you have tailored the trim to suit the dogs shape – every judge is different you never know quite why they like that they do!

One judge did go wow over my labradoodles coat and my scissoring though!

They look lovely Suz, I am a proud mother hen, there is nothing you can do about a dog that removes coat other than your best but you know it will get knocked, the Labrawhatsit is the best IMO not fond of the standard cut he looks heavy as well  but the Doddle is stunning and deserved to win
    Well Done
Sorry this is the first chance I have had to look been really busy

*ahem* oops !!!  sorry didnt know they came in silver  :embarrass:

yet another Q – how come the white standard has a blobby tail and your one has a little thin tail ?  any reason??  (oh you can tell i am sooo in with the grooming techno-lang !!!)

Thanks Val – I should of taken the standard in with less coat – my fault lesson learnt  ;D If he looks heavy its because i didnt take enough coat off – I really tried hard though

Am still so pleased with how all 3 turned out – learnt a lot now cant wait for the next one! Apparently ( from a post from another groomer) the judges were still raving about my labradoodle yesterday  ;D

Claire its just the different trims – also my poodle has an undocked tail and the white was docked  😉

hehe thats really cool Suz 😀 😀

    well done you 🙂

how long do you get for each dog ?  is there a time limit to finish each one in for judging ?  who sweeps up lol – wouldnt fancy that job !!! 😀

Anna – i think you should forget your grooming course and go to Suz for an apprenticeship especially as I know you like doodles  😀

LOL some guy was going round sucking it all up with a hoover  😀

Get two and half hours for the standard – two hours for the doodle and the mini poodle – must admit i felt a bit  :surprise:  :scared: when i saw everyone else had teeny crossbreeds and i had him lol!

Your doing a grooming course Anna? Where when? Sorry i dont teach – demos yes, comps yes – teach nope.

    #99567

Yep Suz I am doing a 2 week intensive course at Moulton College to teach me basics about grooming as i’m just a beginner  ;D I would then like to progress onto higher courses and eventually add it onto my dog training and walking business. Always been interested in grooming and think i will enjoy it (reason i asked if you knew about seminars) want to learn as much as i can  🙂 Thats the plan!

Its level 2 intermiediate NPTC certificate. That is the highest one they do at the college. Not sure of exact details about what the course covers yet but i know it teaches about right equipment for each breed, clipping, health checks etc. Will find out more details when do for info event. Starts in July and is 9-6 everyday for two weeks and we are encouraged to bring in as many breeds as we can to practice on  ;D What would you advise I do after this course- have u heard of it??
