The members of The Pet Food Association of Canada are committed to the production of wholesome and nutritious foods for your pet. Our members, pet owners themselves, have strict production protocols that include thorough testing and monitoring of their ingredients and suppliers. Pet owners may feel safe and confident in feeding all foods that are not part of the recall. In light of the recent recalls of pet food products, we offer the following:
The Federal Drug Administration in the United States (FDA) announced on March 30th, 2007, that melamine was found in samples of recalled pet food. Melamine is used as a fertilizer in China, where the ingredients were imported from. FDA has advised consumers to continue using pet foods that were not subject to the recall.
Hills Pet Nutrition, Inc., has voluntarily recalled a single product, Prescription Diet m/d Feline Dry food as a precaution, because wheat gluten received from the same supplier as was received by Menu Foods has tested positive for melamine. Prescription Diet m/d Feline Dry Food is sold exclusively at veterinary hospitals and Hills has notified veterinarians to remove the product from use. More information is available at Hills’ website, http://www.HillsPet.com.
Nestle Purina Petcare has made a voluntary recall of Mighty Dog pouch products and specific date codes of ALPO Prime Cuts canned dog food. NEITHER Mighty Dog® nor ALPO Prime Cuts® are available in Canada and therefore the Canadian consumer is unaffected by this recall.
Medi-cal®/Royal Canine has recalled Feline Dissolution Formula (canned) as a result of learning that wheat gluten from the contaminated shipment was used in one production lot (January 08 2009). This product is sold in Canada exclusively through veterinarians and the company has advised veterinarians to remove all date codes of the product from use. Information about this recall is available at http://www.Medi-cal.ca.
The list of canned/pouched products that are the subject of the Menu Foods recall can be seen at http://www.MenuFoods.com/recall.
Delmonte has recalled a number of pet treats as a precaution, after having taken delivery of wheat gluten from the same supplier as Menu Foods. Only one variety, Beef Jerky Treats, was sold in Canada. For more information, visit. http://www.delmonte.com.
Natural Balance has announced a voluntary recall of two types of products, regardless of date code. Venison & Brown Rice dog food products and Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Food have been recalled. More information is available at http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com.
Complete information pertaining to US-initiated recalls is posted at http://www.fda.gov. “Hot Topcis—Pet Food Recall”.Scary stuff really

Rape is the most toxic of all food-oil plants. Like soy, rape is a weed. Insects will not eat it; it is deadly poisonous! The oil from the rape seed is a hundred times more toxic than soy oil

MemberActually it is not the company that is in trouble per se, but the suppliers of ingredients from China. China are under a lot of scrutiny at the moment with dog food, human food and of course children’s toys.
There are product recalls from very reputable firms such as M & S all the major supermarkets etc from time to time because ALL checking is purely a snapshot view.
I am not a particular fan of Hills dog food, but it would be wrong to imply that they deliberately and/or knowingly sold impure food.

[/quote]I know, the oil I am using here is grown and pressed in germany. But if this is so toxic why it is one of the leading cold press oils on the market and nobody is dying from it?? Is Canola and Rape the same thing? According to the flowers they look the same :-\
Is there scientific facts to back this up? Forget American brands, they are eating and selling unsuitable goods to consumers >:(
