Bet the dressmaker will be in the paper just phone get a clients number and phone to find out was she happy, dressmakers are a dieing breed but they are still out there if you live near a local fabric shop they will have a list.
The range of patterns is far greater than the ones in the shops plus a dressmaker can play with a pattern to make it personal plus you can get the most beautiful fabic and nobody will be wearing the dress as it’s not shop brought.
I have even made them from a picture  ;D as  did my daughter she just came in waving a picture

when my son got married debbie had the dress made – it is a superb wedding dress place – the way it worked was that the shop had a number of examples /styles already made in a basic format – debbie picked the style and then chose the personal touch extras – she was fitted and measured from trying on the standard size of one of the examples – the dressmaker noted all adjustments needed -made the basic and then debbie went back for 3 fittings – the last one about 5 days before the wedding – it was all very simple – costly but simple and the dress was stunning – the dress maker did the whole thing – even down to the underwear – refused to do the last fitting unless debbie turned up in the bra and knickers bought for the day  🙂

If I was doing it the time would be about 2 mths would need four fittings the last one the week before as I have never met a bride yet that doesn’t lose weight I also insist on bra and knickers bought for the day have a look about Gracie a good dressmaker can make any bride radiant.
2mths would also depend on how much other work they have I never really did it for a living it was just breed in me like my dogs are, my Nanna worked for Norman Hartnell way before your time  ::)
I could sew sequins on at a good rate before I started school my Nanna had many a good battle with sewing teachers at schools  ::) I have sewed all my life have loads of qualifications, just promised my Nanna I would not make a livng at it as it’s hell on the eyes

No  ;D is the answer I don’t have a room for wedding dresses even if I lived on your doorstep can’t have the dogs around when you sew one of those also haven’t got any white sheets for the floor or for the patterns Whew got out of that one.
Sometimes the woman that do the alterations in shops also make dresses some don’t as for cost it would depend on what you fancy once had a friends daughter Becky that I made a dress for she had a picture out of Vogue the dress was three thousand I made the same dress for her for two hundred or there abouts I did not charge her for my time but that would have been about five hundred then which was few years ago I think six years.
