ok – this is an extension to bones and finding them and flirting with the butcher  ;D

so suz for example can use this thread to post finds in etc

today i went out to the hockley heath butcher i found last year – i know that thursday is his bone collection day so i called him at 9am and said just save me what you have not already put in the bone collector bin – once there he cannot sell or give me – re the regs

so

i got

a rack of beef rib ( that gone to gunner as i cannot do beef )
12 racks of boned off pork ribs
6 racks of boned off lamb ribs
an out of date lamb fillet
an out of date pork fillet
about 3 k of fats trimmings suet etc
3 grouse carcasses
2 chicken carcasses
and as i am a cheeky cow

i then said you got any chicken wings by any chance

loads i dump them as many of my customers ask me to remove them from the whole chickens and i also have to sometimes take off the bone on the fillets  😮 and i cant be arsed to do owt with them

so got a carrier bag of those as well and from now on he going to freeze them down for me

i got 4 days worth of meat for 5 big dogs and a days meal for gunner and teigan (those that not in the know they GSPs)

cost – nothing – not a penny

i do this – i scour butchers – i buy meat for us – today all i bought was a round of oxtail and some spring broccoli and a parsnip

and this is why it only costs me 30p a day per dog as an average

get to know the butchers in your area – get to know their bone collection days – tell them you feed raw and will take anything at all – you can sort it later – butchers that have game licenses are the best – they are butchering in the old fashioned way on the premises

theres only 1 in accesable distance to me that will give/sell you anything – and you have to have a car to get there so i have to wait for Matt – total pain in the ass

That lot would have probably cost me £20!  They normally charge me £1 for 2 big knuckles and I paid £2 once for a bag of ribs, but there arent many butchers around here anymore, the one about 10 miles away, doesnt ever have any bones!!!

Reading, Basingstoke, Bracknell, Guildford are the biggest ones Camberleys crap even for normal shopping, cant get them from Tesco, they not allowed, they have throw them away, what a waste!!

I found a butcher last week in a village about 6 miles away called Stockbury – he gave me what he had in the way of rib bones and didn’t want any money  ;D Shall be visiting him again  ;D Its a massive butcher, general store and post office – fantastic!!  ;D Bought the kids some sweets in the shop so I didn’t feel so bad walking out with a carrier bag full of free bones  😀 I know I have to go by car but it’s on the way to my mums so not so bad!  🙂 Have no butchers within walking distance  ::)

Tesco’s used to butcher when I worked for them – all comes in pre-packed now  ::)
