Any tips on what I should teach Scooby before his first trip to the groomers.
Also he has a real tear issue. Have real trouble cleaning his fur around his eyes. Anything I can do.
I read it could be the water they drink. The water is quite soft where he came from (in the mountains) and quite hard where we are, Could this cause it????

Diet plays a part with the staining too – what you feeding him? And apple cider vinegar can help – in their water.

As far as his grooming goes, soon as hes safe to go out book him an appointment – we like to see them asap, not when they are 6 months/ a year and starting to matt from the coat change as its just a horrid experience for all concerned.

At home get him up on a small table/box with a non slip surface for 5 mins every day get him used to standing and bbeing brushed – he will behave better up there than if you sit on the floor/sofa anyway  🙂

And simple stuff like getting him used to having his paws touched and his face held, is all stuff we have to do .

Thank you for you advice. I have been grooming him everyday. He does not seem to mind to much apart from around his face. (keeps wriggling)
I still have him on the food the breeder had him on. Natural balance. Not sure if you have it the uk. I have read through the ingredients and doesn’t seem to bad.
But his eyes are pretty bad so I would change it to make him better.
He gets his last set of needles next week so I will book him in.
    Apple cider vinegar?

Make sure you find a decent groomer – is lots of untrained cowboys out there, his first experience is too imprtant for someone to screw it up  🙂

natural balance – not sure will have a look

and yes apple cider vinegar im sure you can get that?

OK one more question. Scooby is booked in at the groomers in a few weeks. Not sure what they should and should not cut for a havanese. Some pics I see have poodle cuts which I don’t like. I love him as he is with his silky puppy look. But as he will get longer as he gets older and most people only keep them long if showing. Any recommendations??
