Ermm, they were last done when she went for last groom joly! :-\
She on half raw at the moment lol and half JWB, think it going to be after christmas she goes full raw! ::)December 16, 2006 at 7:05 pm #93289Anonymous
GuestHun any chance you can get her on the raw sooner? if shes on half raw anyway – i bet that would help with her itching problems. But try and get someone to check her anal glands – that might be why shes chewing her tail so much :-*

Memberjoly val..rough(think your the other groomer :-\ ) anyway spotted this on the net and wondered if you use it at the groomers and what is it ???
quote :If a longhaired dog is not groomed daily, mats and tangles can be a serious problem. Sometimes tangles can be brushed out. If the coat is matted, try using your fingers to pull the mat apart and then brush the hair in place. If the mat cannot be worked apart with the fingers, grooming preparations are available that lubricate the mats so they are easier to comb out. If combing will not work, the mats must be cut off. Gently pull the mat away from the dog’s body, then carefully cut the hair between the mat and the skin. Blunt-edge scissors are recommended to help prevent injuring the dog if he should wiggle during the cutting procedure. The bit that is in blue, is it a spray or something??

GuestI just use conditioner neat out of the bottle. Quick, cheap and easy! ;D There are some specialist products but I had no use for them.
Most matts can be teased out if they haven’t been put in warm water and felted. In the same way that putting a wool jumper in warm water will make it shrink, that’s exactly what happens when dogs with ungroomed undercoat are bather without grooming by their well meaning owners! ::)I certainly don’t agree with the bit about “cut the hair between the mat and the skin.” I would always cut from the skin to the end of the matt, outwards, so that I didn’t make a hole in the coat. 😉

GuestI dont like de-tangling sprays etc – i find i can get all but the VERY worst out with a slicker and a comb – didnt know about the conditioner though Rough ;D

GuestConditioner is silicone – shiny and slippery. It coats the hair so that it slides. 😉 ;D

GuestI use a blob of conditioner but like rough after a lifetime of longhaired dogs I can move a matt with my fingers and a cable needle

MemberCan anyone (Joly Val ;)) advise on a good brush to use on Fritz?
We have a detangling comb which we use on his beard and longer parts of his fur (legs etc) and a Mikki slicker brush.
He will lie there all day with the detangler but he cannot stand the mikk brush. i;m guessing cause it feels harsh on his skin? Is there another type of brush that I could use on him or will the detangler do ok?December 31, 2006 at 6:03 pm #93300Anonymous
GuestAre you using the slicker brush properly? If you use it wrong it will be dragging on his skin -drag it flat up our arm you will see what i mean 😉
I use the slickers at work – but on my own dog who is combed regularly i only ever use a comb 🙂

Memberi use both, slicker and thin toothed comb! Milly loves the slicker, lies back as though she getting a massaged! ::) ;D
