Good to see you back nat.

matt, keep the bike!  You know falling off is part of the game, and sometimes we get hurt. You’ll regret it and be bitter towards anyone who you feel made you get rid of it.

…there was this lady walking down the street once and she got hit by a truck!
…there was this baby who fell out of a window, fell 20 feet to her death
…there was this man who fell aslepp in the bath and drowned
…there was this grandmother of 6 who got in a car accident and was rendered a vegetable

Nat, you knew I was going to do this. Had to.

I don’t agree with that. Nobody can make you do anything. If, and only IF i choos to get rid of something that i value so high, than i chose to do so. No matter how much pressure the wife would have put on me, the decision is and stays ultimately mine. And if i would regret it later…. than I made a big mistake. Not her. I and I alone chose to do that for her. But there is no use regretting it. Should have thought about that befor. Not after.  😉

First off, if you think I was singling out Nat, you are very wrong. Nat cares about her man and doesn’t want him hurt. It’s as simple as that.  Trust me, I’ve been through it many times myself.

A person needs to make this decision on their own, I agree. But, the decision needs to be made on ones own terms. If one can no longer physically or mentally particpate in an activity then so be it, the decision is out of their hands. However, if when that person is at their weakest point and they make that decision then that is regrettable.

He needs to heal up, then when ready get back on the bike..then  if it’s just not worth it anymore then it’s time to move on.

Don’t think for one minute that anyone who rides a motorcycle and has a family doesn’t factor that into the equation! It’s a part of every ride, every twist of the wrist, every corner every moment of heart stopping braking.

It’s a drug that can only be quit when the time is right.  If you don’t ride, you don’t know.

My best wishes to Matt, and my apologies to Nat if I was misconstrued.

Nick – I know you did bikey stuff – I don’t think you do any more do you? – but whether to or not is a decision that has to factor in things like families, children etc surely – and whichever gender, the feelings of other people, especially OH, and their wishes need to be taken into account.

I hope my little brother never takes up motorbikes – though I think it unlikely as he is over-cautious if anything – he and my mother hover on the other side of the road still after they could have crossed about ten times.  😀

But bikes are a very dangerous pursuit – and virtually all the men I have met with them seem to think they are somehow invincible when riding one – and they have done things such as riding at 70mph in a 30mph zone, coming off and skidding across A roads in front of juggernauts, coming off and injuring themselves so badly they are in hospital for months and then get pensioned off, and thinking they ‘know what they are doing’ weaving in and out of traffic on motorways. And they are all people I would consider sensible – till they get near a bike. And that is over and above the fact that biking is dangerous anyway – even riding safely there is a higher risk of being hit by cars turning round, or turning out of side roads and not seeing you – have seen that happen too.  🙁 And I have come very very close to hitting a biker on the motorway – as he weaved between me and the car I had just overtaken and then overtook me on the inside as I was indicating to pull back into the middle lane and starting to move across….

On a personal level I am not sure I would be happy with having an OH that went out biking regardless of how I felt about it – not sure I could do that – give, take and compromise and all that….  :ok: It is up to the individual what they do – but when they are part of a partnership that needs to be taken into account is what I think I’m trying to say.  If that makes sense?

Ok as you have probably gathered from Val’s post she knows how fast he was going!!!! For the benefit of the guys he got a tank slapper, the front end just goes out of control and there’s not much you can do about it! It happened on a duel carriageway so he was lucky he wasn’t hit by a lorry or car!  :-X

Matt’s a very experianced rider, done supermoto racing, motorcross and had bikes since he was 16 but……………….I am angry he put himself in the position he did, he knows this, he WILL make the decision as to whether or not give it up but he has had views on this from moi and his 9 and 7 year old children who don’t want their daddy put in that position again!  🙁

I hope they right the bloody thing off but doubt that’ll happen cos amazingly, or not as the case may be, it’s not that badly damaged!  >:(

Anyway he’s talking of getting rid and getting a caravan  ;D Suits me cos we’ll all get enjoyment from that!  :agree:
