broke down on the m25 today, with Jess and Livia in the car.

Livia has no fear of moving vehicles.

Unfortunately Jess does and its been a real bad experience for her as in pupils dilated, uncontrollable shaking, trying to bolt, we were out there for about 45 mins- only had rescue remedy with me, so dosed her as much as I could.

She has had sweet pots and has been fed to help her sleep, but she still very edgy  :-\

You just need to give her time at the moment.  Then you need to deal with this and desensitise her.  Introducing her to this stuff very very slowly at dogs pace no yours.  Starting with the likes of 30 seconds – making it a good positive experience and slowly building up the time of the event over a good few weeks.  She may not ever love being in this situation but she could certainly manage it better.  You need to work out what it is exactly that is triggering her reaction.  Is it the noise, the car shuddering as others going by or all of it.  Is she like this with cars when she is walking?  Is she noise sensitive to other stuff….. the list goes on you need to break it down into small, really small steps and not deal in big chunks.

You know all ths stuff hun.  Take your emotion out of it and see it as a behaviourist and not an owner.  😉

Mudge she was hit by a car at 6 months, have been working with her ever since and have never got further than her being able to stand near a main road if we have to cross she can go as far as half way and then she tries to bolt.

Yesterday was very traumatic for her in terms of it was a flooding exp out of my control.

Today she is still very quiet, she been sick and her eyes are streaming constantly with gunge. I need to get her adrenalin levels down before even thinking about starting her on a desensitization programme.

Car- think it may be going to the scrapheap in the sky- will email you Suz  :-*

has been very lethargic, not interacting with anyone or Livia

had a phone call who told me to take her out for 1-2-1 and feed sweet pots, since taking her out did some freeshaping with her when we got back and she had perked up.

But she now again lethargic- but that is prob just knackered, refusing her fav treats, eye is red raw and swollen and third lid is red so am flushing that out with eye drops atm.

will see how she goes tonight, thanks for asking Mudgie  :-*

She will be tired from all the stress hun.  Just give her a bit of time and try not reinforce it.  Difficult I know when you just want to cuddle and soothe them….  :baby:  :-*

sounds like you know what you are doing Izzie so not much more to add other then to take something to help soothe yourself, if you haven’t already – must have been awfully upsetting for you to see her like that then and now 🙁

Hope she’s feeling better soon :-* Let us know how she is tomorrow….

ok rather than start up another thread, will keep it on this one

Took Jess to vets as eye was swollen slighty and weeping and other eye was starting to do the same, vet couldnt see any scratches or ulcers in the eye so suspects its a seed or similar in there

He also checked Jess’ heart- this is a new vet who hasnt seen Jess before, when J was about a year old she was diagnosed with MVD with a grade 3 murmour. last year the grade went down to 1. this vet could barely hear it.  he checked 3 times so has asked to see Jess’ notes on it all as she had the ultrasound and cardio tests with Thomas Schulze (Val- you heard of him?)  Vet is absolutely stunned by this….

Val, Bev would like to hear your opinions on this- bearing in mind when she was first diagnosed, she was on balls in a bag – was about a month after she was changed to natural

Thomas Schulze is well known in cardiology I would take a stab at it being a change to a better diet that as upped her health and energy levels thereby making her fitter and that includes her heart

yep with val…..she has also lost weight izz….and is generally trimmer and fitter all over…her muscle tone is much better…look at pics of her then and compare to now…..all that playing with the pup too  🙂 and changing from balls in bag to natural has reduced the stress on the internal organs so the heart hasnt got to work as hard
