Memberbecause people are starting to recognise me and Max, they are stopping to talk. Max is ready for this but i ask them not to interact with him at the moment. with those that dont, he sees very quickly that it will get him nowhere and stops and settles (with the occasional new attempt). brilliant. but those others insist that they know dogs and its fine and reward him for jumping to/at them.
one guy this afternoon caught me unawares while talking to somebody else, i pulled Max away and asked him not to and he said
‘its alright, its what they do, they just love people and other dogs. my labs are terrible for it’
i answered that thats why i wont allow Max to do it (through gritted teeth). he looked at me as if i was deluded and said that labs are hard to train! i wanted to ask him to think about any connection with what he just did and then said.btw kiz, remember the chocolate labs?

one was in a halti yeah?October 12, 2008 at 5:37 pm #77812deebee
Memberthink you must have replied to wrong post :-\
must put this down before i forget it.
as a pup, Max was shown to people who fussed him. he enjoyed it. when he saw people he new it was good so he looked for it and they gave it him. he looks at them now willing them to touch him, pulling forward to make sure, and the eye contact does it. i’ve seen Cas and she has very appealing eyes.
but thats probably bunkum :embarrass:

Memberyep it re-enforced behaviour …it also has added in there the lack of socialisation in the weeks that followed them getting him…could be worse…he could be tryng to eat them instead 🙂

Memberthe thing is, its like hes doing ‘look into my eyes, not around the eyes, you will pet me, now’. they cant help themselves and do not see that hes manipulating them into doing it.
its the fact that they ignore my request that bugs me though. even if they did know better, its my dog and they act like i’m abusing him by not letting him get fusses. rant over.

[/quote]ohhh, just got it. yes, the labs and one in a halti.
well, today, i asked for it and got it. took him up to the rec (butchers shut). its normally pretty quiet, not this time. there must have been 25 kids doing their thing on the ramps etc. he was excited but it seemed like going to the shops for the first time so thought just sit here to the side of them and be calm. dog behind us gave Max other ideas. unfortunately he slipped his lead as he yanked so hard and was off. he wasnt polite about it either. the dog was with teenagers, off lead but as if on and tried to get behind one of them. Max persued with nose up bum until one of them managed to stand on his lead.
hes now having loud woofy dreams and im upset that i allowed it to happen. at the moment, i cant see how he will ever be dog polite.
been too happy about things this last week, serves me right.

Memberthe mats well chewed and he had sicked up bile stuff with blood in so hopefully just scratched throat ami cherry stone style but have said vets in case he has swallowed etc…although cork is a natural substance it is hard to digest and it can move down to the bowel faster than the stomach acids can act on it…especially if it treated cork that is used in such things as place mats etc…
so he at the vets …
he just back so will let deebee post 🙂

Membercame down this morning to what looked like armageddon. cork and bile piles eveerywhere.
i was :surprise:, and he went oh dear and sat down and wagged his tail, in one of the bile piles.4 cork place mats in shreds all over kitchen floor and he must have been at it a long while as quite a bit of the bile piles were dry. one big one with a little red blood in it. me on phone to Bev.
been waiting to see Bev for a good month. she was coming today. things dogs will do to get out of it lol.
vets was interesting, we were the only ones there at first in the tiny waiting room and when we came out of the consultation room, dog alert. border (eyeball) collie alert. max wanted to jump on him and managed to jump on one of the owners before sitting. he couldnt sustain so i thought ‘put him in the car and come back in to pay’.
mother with bunny in box and wobbly toddler then decided to come in, so we were blocked :help:
jumped at box (not toddler thank dog) and used this distraction to jump over the dogs owner onto the collie, or should i say clamber over?it was so quick that she just sat there and luckily so did the collie :embarrass:
vet has said that as he hasnt been sick for a while, its likely he wont anymore. felt his stomach for any big pieces and gave him a zantac injection. said he thought the blood more likely to be further down than a scratched throat but starve for the day and then chicken and rice little and often. check his poos (get right in there he said :D) and if sick/ diahorrea bring him back.
not the first visit experience i would have planned but thats my fault for procrastinating.
