actually – not wanting to be argumentative but not all vets have fridges 😀

the wee surgery over the road is just a reception and a room – vets bring any scheduled meds and a “core supply” of the usuals with them for surgery 🙂  i suppose just like a vet “on call” would?

however – i am sure they keep them cool somehow, i would be much more concerned about where the vaccine had been before getting to the vets and if it was MLV what it was cultivated on etc …

Then they are returned to the main surgery after, and back into the fridge  :agree:
Vets do not do house calls to vaccinate other than large animals then they take the said number

Don’t know about England but in France they will do house call’s, my vet came out and chipped and vacinated 7 x 4wk old puppy’s for me last year so that I didn’t have to take them all to her, she came back out and done 2nd vac’s at 9 wks then came back and done rabies jabs then came back 4 weeks later and took blood for the last 3 puppys that where stopping here and I didn’t pay one call out charge!!!!!!! although on a busy day I did have to take a chicken to them when she wasn’t well, which they found hilarious as the French would have just necked it and put it in the oven 😀

Just to add ours is a very busy surgery covering all the dairy farms in our area, but will make time for house call’s for domestic pets as well as farm animals pretty good don’t you think

    Hi,

i dont know exactly but a possible scenario could be he/she takes them and carts them through rounds / work till surgery at 4:30 – 6:30pm and because i expect they will have to over pack because you can book an appointment all through the day and vet may have already left – some may be returned, i guess there is potential for some to do this many times.  however – i would call this a relatively minor happening compared to the way catherine described reps were driving round with them stuffed on the back seat of the car (apparently now there are some new guidelines to stop this?).

i havent even got onto all the other awful stuff she said about MLV’s and them being cultivated – there is some info on website.

UK vets do make housecalls – probably more common tho is i know rescues that have vets with vacc bags out to vac/flea/worm/chip the latest “batch”.  i expect they would do this for a breeder if there were a fair few puppers to make it worthwhile £££ 😀

And if your have the cure for fading pups I would love to learn what you saved them with when the vets can’t

I am up to my neck with work, so very quickly….vaccines are not the quick fix that the vaccine manufacturers make them out to be.  Jmho.  As for the cure for fading pups…..it is a herbal mix which is called Raspberry Compound.  I can’t give the ingredients, as it under copyright.  I didn’t make it up…..someone I know did….and it works.  Just as Parvaid works, so no need for the Parvo vaccine, either.  Alternatives are out there, but most people just blindly follow the vaccine route….and end up with dogs with skin problems, auto immune diseases, etc.

Edited to add that the RC can be given to the in-whelp bitch.

vaccines are meant to be a preventative…. so how could they be a quick fix?  ??? and since a lot of people on here don’t routinely vaccinate anyway as far as i’m aware, i am missing your point a bit. this is about one specific disease, not blanket vaccination – as far as I can see.  ???

have to say many of us dont vaccinate…..we dont blindly do anything. And i think youd be suprised, i know I am when i chat to customers and how many DONT vaccinate and for the right reasons not just because they cant be bothered/afford it etc etc.

Anyway dont want to drag this away from topic in hand.

Good luck with the tests Sue!  can I just ask again about this vaccine?  Do you only have it done to the bitch and / or dog before they are about to be mated?  Or how soon before the mating do you need to have it done?  Also when do you have the other tests/swabs done before the mating?

would it be better to use a proven dog as she’s maiden ?  also would it be better to use an older dog and therefor u more likely to know if anything nasty is lurking ?

    just random thoughts 😀

If number 1 is proven I think I’ll go with him, just need to pluck up courage to ask the owners now! think I should get tests done first before I ask though, it would prob sound better saying she’s had this and that dont you think. Dog is a champ so would be pretty sure he’s tested for everything.

    Hi,

I’m actually not sure it matters re: tests before or after –

when you talk to them say its an initial enquiry and that you have planned / booked tests for a b c … and is gonna only be if they are all OK – you just wanted to ask and see if all tests are ok if they are around/willing to go for next season.  you can then ask them if he’s proven (if you want to do some research doesnt christine – kerioak – have a dobie database?) she’s lovely and very helpful too.

erm … and just basically say what kodi’s like as a dog person – like she’s a happy girl and all that and what she’s won etc… and just get to know them a little maybe say you’ll call again to arrange to visit (you not K) once the tests are all clear and go from there?

also – something i’ve picked up is not to offer a pup, give fees and then first refusal at usual price after your choice from litter if they want a pup too.  things can get a bit complicated offering pups especially if it doesnt “happen” first time etc ……. and whatever you do – dont offer 1st refusal, you will be doing all the work – you want the bestest pupper for you (or a friend / good show person if you are not keeping one to get your affix out there :D)

lastly – dont assume, ask everything all the tests and if he’s not have one are they prepared to pay / go 50/50 etc… get his full ped from them (or Kerioak if she has it) and do the research bit – you know all that obviously 😀
