what a ‘bitch’ threat…lord yes can be…you have seen ami around cubert…she will do the he mine around other entire lasses and if they didnt appease she would go into strong management mode…
it a resource thing….it’s life’s drive…what else biologically do they exsist for…it strips them off to the genetic basics of survival…girlie fights are the worse there is…

No, I meant the hormone inbalance in males- is it usual for entire girlies to kick off

Found the answer on the other thread though  :-[

Loki gets on with pretty much all dogs, but he ignores castrated males in general (just doesn’t nother with them – not ever horrible). But I have noticed that all females – spayed or entire seem to like him more than they like other girls or castrated males. In fact – even quite aggressive females like him  :-\

i missed this the first time around as i haven’t been getting on as much since i started getting swamped with assignments …

It has been a facinating read from the orginial question through to the hormone discussion at the end…

i have to say that if i had read this when it was originally posted i would have put that i boneded instantly with beau and within a couple of days he had bonded with me…but at this moment i am going through a period of….questioning i guess, stemmed through event of my last session at college and my assignment on canine communication….now i am looking at both my historical bond and my current bond…and although i know how much i love him and he is more than content with me, am i really making him happy, do i really offer him as much as he deserves and what can i do to improve his way of life, particularly his stress and nervousness….i have alot to learn and at the moment feel a little overhwelmed, but i’ll get over that, i started this course with one objective, to make Beau’s life better and to correct some of the mistakes i made with him which hopefully will allow him to deal better with stressful situations, he has come along way, mostly by himself…and now its time for me to step up and actually apply some knowledge and learn more and more to assist with this outcome.

    Sorry for the essay  🙂

The hormone discussion is facinating and i was only reading about olfactory communication last week so this is great  ;D

Don’t apologise!  I’ve also been reading this post with great interest.

Which course is it that you are doing Kerry?

I’d not considered the “smell” of entire or castrated dogs really before reading through this.  I now worry (again!) that I’ve messed about with something with Rafe that I can’t undo, and which he’ll have to figure out how to get over…

He was playing with an entire 12month old GSD yesterday, and the GSD started trying to hump him.  He isn’t agressive, so he wouldn’t (yet) attack a dog for doing this, altho he does try to shake them off.

I don’t really know what to do in this situation.  Do I encourage him to shake the dog off or do I just leave be?  I don’t really want to see him pinned to the floor with a dog humping him – it doesn’t feel like I’m looking after him if I let that happen…  But if I encourage him for shaking the other dog off, would that make things escalate beyond just humping?  I don’t want to encourage him to sort things out with agression.  Dominance/submission, ok, agression, not ok.

After the humping (and the shaking off) Rafe and this GSD went into “boxing” mode, air wrestling each other.

I’m pretty sure this is just dominance behaviour, but I don’t know now whether Rafe is at a disadvantage because he isn’t giving off the right scents?
