some help please little bro been bit by pit bull / pit bull type what to do!

Right, Well Little bro who is 10/11 had gone round with his friend to complain to a mum that their child had been swearing, the mum wasnt in, the child and a babysitter (who is only around 12) was in, my little bro his friends and possibly other kids are in the garden of the dogs house, the dog gets out! kids run I guess screaming, my bro obv the slowest one and get bitten on his leg and ankle while trying to jump the fence, been to hospital, its bleeding but not punctured, not broken the skin as such but will be bruised in the morning. – hops have said that we dont have to report it.

The dog is an american pitbull it was bought off a man who was on TV a while ago, you know that programme about the dog fighting, well he was in it! (breeding and using dogs fro fighting) sold a pup – the woman who bough the pup didnt know at the time that the dog was pitbull, but its been spayed, it only goes out early late morning eve as it doesnt like other dogs apparently is registered with the RSPCA.. (but is it illegal to own a pit bull?? of does it just need to be muzzled and on lead in public??) and the dogs front garden is surely not a public place!!!

My mum had called me to say what to do, the woman has offered to get the dog put down if mum wants, but mum feels that she doesnt want to make her if uncalled for..
My bro was in the dogs garden – but then the dog should not have been put in a situation where it could escape ie it shouldnt have been left with the kids. Also mum was telling me that the woman whenever someone knocks at the door the dog is shut in a room befroe the front door is open, so this may have added to the situation.

The worry is if its left if it does it again?? ….

any thoughts ideas??

I think in all honesty that your brother shouldnt have been there.  There was lots of screaming etc and I really dont think this is the dog’s fault at all.

I dont know what Nacho would have done if he had felt threatened and I wasnt there to let him know it was okay. 

I think the dog is getting punished and it is the owners are to blame.  Kids shouldnt be looking after kids.  If anyone needs reported it is the parents to the RSPCC – 12 year olds shouldnt be looking after other children!!  And why is a child going to report swearing  😮

And if dog isnt well socialised that is owners fault not dogs.  Your shout but I would just walk away.  I wouldnt want to be responsible for a dog’s death.  If you aren’t present you wont ever know what really happened from the dogs point of view.

My thoughts exactly Mudge they shouldnt have been there!! Mum feels the same too which is why she thinking of telling owner she not reporting and leaving it up to her to decide.

I have no idea what Gracie would do if a load of kids were running round jumping over fences in ‘her’ garden, I bet she would get excited an possibly nip one of them!!

a very tough situation but i think i agree with Mudgie on this…..

I know exactly what Dodger would have done had he of been in that situation and believe it would have ended much worse :-\

If the dog has problems to start with along can’t imagine how much worse it had been made with all the running and screaming…..

You obviously don’t know exactly what happened as you weren’t there so like Mudgie said it’s your call really…. but i too would leave it alone

totally agree, and far as im aware front garden is private – i know i look on our front garden as private….ie i dont expect anyone to be in it unless invited – so yep glad hes going to be ok if very sore but agreed walk away  :-*

I agree with the above comments.  Even if it is a pit, the attack was on his territory and there’s no guarantee that it will happen again outside the property.  He’s had a lucky escape so just be glad about that  🙂

Thanks Guys – the police came round as the hospital had to notify them re the type of dog. Been to see the damage today looks nasty but if it had wanted to damage him it would have been far worse!!

Interestingly the police said it did not matter if it was in their garden or not if it was a dangerous breed and it had done damage they could get it put to sleep.
Mum never pressed charges said it would have been different if it was wondering the streets and it happened!! The police will notify the community wardens and if the dog is seen out wondering the street alone or out of control in the streets will reassess…

Some work to do now so hes not afraid of dogs…. :-\

I don’t know if it’s different where you are but what the police said doesn’t sound right about it not mattering if it was on private property :-\ i remember a story where a young girl had been bitten by a bullmastiff in my area but because it was on the owners front garden the dog couldn’t be forced to be put to sleep unless the owner decided to do it….

Anyway i hope your brother recovers quickly 🙂
