you should have been doing lead training in your fathers paddock so start now
I’ve been “walking” her around the paddock and garden for the last week… she hasn’t got any better…

I do find that one annoying thing about forums is that, yes there is a weath of brilliant knowledge here, I jsut can’t find it! I think it’s mostly because, inevatably, replies always stray from the original topic! I found that youtube videos have been useful for clicker training so far… Think I’ll look on there to see if I can find anything, then ask if it’s correct on here, then try it for myself!

I’ve decided that It’s just too garlicey… I think I’m starting to sweat garlic somehow!! I got the proportions far too wrong.Β  I’ve ditched this lot and am going to make it again tonight… Trial and error I guess…

It’s in the freezer now! All cut up into little cubes! (that was a laborious process… and I still haven’t got the smell of garlic and chicken out of my hands!) πŸ™‚

but no turkey skin……
Yeah I wouldn’t use the skin anyway…
First turkey cake went well… I think… It came out a little doughy. Is that right or should it be hard like a biscuit? I will make it thinner in future if that’s the case! Either way, she’s gone absolutely nuts for it! πŸ™‚

Will continue clickering this morning…

PS – Mobile phone version of this forum is absolutely TOP NOTCH!! ;D

Is there any reason why i couldn’t use turkey? I’m in the supermarket and it’s a 1/4 of the price of chicken! Thought i’d ask before jumping in! πŸ™‚

Frankfurters work quite well chopped up, as do pepperami sticks. I found Cass didn’t like cheddar but went mad for edam cheese.

Ooo didn’t think of frankfurters! (damn it but I like them too much too!!) It’ll be one fer her, three for me if I’m not carful!! πŸ™‚

in my freezer at the moment we have
1 massive bag of kidney cake
1 massive bag of chicken cake
1 massive bag of cheese cake
That’s a perfect recipe and I can do that in one hit in an evening – excellent! Do you feed the treats frozen or defrost them again?

i sent you the cue sheet hun
Indeed you did and I have printed it out and been learning it! πŸ™‚ I just got confused as to what you meant by drop. I interpreted it as a “give” which you’ve now cleared up!
a visual drop is the lying down sorry…i tend to say to clients do a drop cos if dog hears me say do a down the dog hears me and responds as if i had cuedΒ  πŸ™‚
Understood!
sequence is:
cue
behaviour happens
click
reward by throwing out treat to set dog up for the next cue
Ok so, just to clarify in my head:

For sits:
1) Throw out treat…
2) As she comes back, raise right 1st finger…
3) As she sits (assuming she does), click…
4) Throw out next treat…

For downs:
1) Throw out treat…
2) As she comes back, point right 1st finger to the ground…
3) As she lies down (assuming she does), click…
4) Throw out next treat…

If she doesn’t lay down (It’s a little touch and go at the moment), is it best to interviene and push her bottom down? Or rather than “throw” a treat out, use the treat to lure her to the floor (maybe while pushing her bottom down)?

sounds charged to me

start with a visual sit and a visual drop – start her off with stuff close to you not recallsΒ  πŸ˜‰ the best place to be is………
How do I do a visual sit when, as soon as I have the clicker in my hand, she’s already sitting!?!? Do I just hold my finger up as I would normally (even though she’s already sitting) and click or do i need to get her to stand up first?!

Also, for visual “drop”, do I just hold my palm out and when she nugdes it, *click* then reward, etc? Is that the idea? I thought open palm should be “give” not “drop”…

Aww sorry to hear about the rehome…

I’m off home now and don’t have internet at home. Might try and access forum from my phone… Not sure how sucessful it’ll be though!

Failing that, I will eagerly await responses tomorrow!

As for this evening, well I think I’ll just dibble in the recall part to see if she is “tuned in” to the clicker! Will let you know how I get on… She’s eaten a LOT of treats today…

When you get your clicker and food pot out the dog should be looking at you expectantly…
But she’s always done this when I picked up the treat jar even before I had the clicker! ???
