Got a weird question. Does anyone know what kind of products or what kind of natural stuff you can use to make red canaries more red? Apart from red eggfood, there are other things one uses. Was wondering what. Anybody any ideas?

How about that algae that Flamingo’s eat which gives thier feathers the pigment? In captivity they don’t have access to that which is why they never look so colourful in zoo’s, i have heard what they do is add a supplement to thier diet to make them more pink so it must be something that you can buy.

Suz and Waggie!!! You don’t know a canarybird?  😮 Most common is yellow and white. Next you got the reds, the mozaik, green etc  😉 . And waggie…. could try that, but if judge have a hunch you tampered with bird than owner is disqualified. I’m chairman…. will be loooooong walk of shame home as it is anounced during rankingannouncements  .

Yupyepyes, that’s sorts of stuff i mean, but don’t know either what it exactly is  :-\  . Canaryshowbreeders differen type of peops than other breedbreeders. They don’t want to share knowledge, or only vèèèry small parts of it  ::)  .
I don’t mind telling a to z with what i use. If you ain’t got a good stock you can breed all you want but you’ll never have prizebirds  😛 .

It’s different with red canaries  :-* . Human skin sort of white and can turn orange due to toooo much Carotine. But red canary has to be of the red breed in order to make the colour deeper red.  😉

Googled for months to find the answer, can’t find it anywhere. And if i do find something it is of such abstract structure that i still don’t know whàt it is preciscly and howmuch to add to their diet. Not enough, than no change. Too much and it will kill the youngens iff eggs hatch  .

In show birds they add Tomato,Cayenne pepper and Paprika to the diet to enhance red colouring.

:-*  :-* and  :-*  girls. All you girls of endless value, my little precious and me thank you very very much. That stuff i ment, that they won’t mention is in the bottomlink of yours Lassie. Thank you so much for finding that for me  . Was looking for it for ages. I had cayenne and paprika in mind woofums, but couldn’t find it anywhere, not on the net, not the library… . It was sunshine who suggested i asked it here on the board. All the things dogboard is good for ha? Hahahaha  😀 .

    I asked because,
My kids want to enter shows too. My little precious already a shower, but not breeder yet. But she always enters shows with my birds. So i got category less to compete in or she competing with my birds against, amongst others….. me  😛 . Now my  action man wants to take papa’s birds to shows too  ::) . I got to depth myself into other breeds, search for good birds and build new flights for them.
Canaries seem to be a tough one. Loads of general info, but when it comes to the realtricks, every good showbreeder keeps lips sealed.  . But hey, no such thing as starting at the top so…….
Within a few years i got to be able to get them up and running in show and breeding  😉 .

    Anyways….again, thank you ladies  :-* .
