MemberAm assuming the owner wanted the beard that short 😛
Did you clip the head in reverse hun – and what did you clip the ears on?Am going to tell you what else you needed to do cos I hope you will appreciate the advice – but firstly – she looks lovely – I know the owner wanted a short pet trim and she looks nice and tidy – well done.
But the ears look a little untidy :-[ hence me asking what blade – see Fritzs pic they are nice and short.
Also her face I think you need to clip her cheeks a bit more but hard to tell from the pic – but would define her beard better and make her more schnauzery (lol is that even a word ;D ) even with the short beard ;DBut you did a good job – and im just being picky 😉 :-* I reckon you could make a living out of this grooming lark 😉

GuestThat’s a nice Schnauzer. This is quite a good explanation of a Mini Schnauzer trim with a nice picture at the end showing the sharpness of the trim.
http://members.aol.com/msbritmor/handstrip.htmlHere’s the clipped version.
http://members.aol.com/msbritmor/groom.htmlInterestingly, it says at the end that whatever method is chosen, the final look should be identical. It’s a shame that some groomers haven’t read that! 😉 🙂

Membermight sound a bit silly but are they really first stripped down to the skin iv seen pics like that on a few sites and wondered
thanks for the links they are really good
do any of u use like a tiny clipper for in the ears, as the lady said who normally dose them cleans the ears right out i did some plucking but i wasn’t going to pop the clipper right in there to get it out from round the edges so is there a smaller version or is it just skill

GuestI know of some owners/exhibitors who strip right back to the skin but I always roll the coat, taking out maybe 25% each time so that the dog always looks tidy – never bald never hairy! 😮
It’s very important to remove as much hair as possible from the ear canals. I use finger and thumb or haemostats if the old fingers are getting sore, but never go any further into an ear that you can touch with the end of your little finger. 🙂

Memberi did pluck them but not all of it was ready to come out but they still didnt look tidy
dosnt stripping right down to the skin hurt

GuestI don’t strip a dog down to the skin I also roll a coat but we are deal with pets and thats the difference the lad you have done merrow looks tidy but his cut is not sharp enough, I would have taken much more fur off the ears, reading Suz repy I do not reverse the blade as it can cause clipper burns must easier to just drop a blade size.
He would have a much closer body strip and the face needed clipping and more thinning his back leg fur is too high on the muscle but you are learning and they are not the easiest dog to do bet his mum thought he was wonderful
What clipper are you using and what blade sizes are you using ?
Pratice makes perfect merrow ;D

MemberBryony I always do the head in reverse with whatever blade I used on the body ;D
And have never given a dog clipper burn Val 😉 ;D :-*And I would go down a blade on the ears so er a 15?? I know I used a 10 on Fritzs ears or maybe I used a 15 cant remember now :-[
And as Rough said about stripping the coat – same here -but it helps if they come fairly regularly!

GuestI’d use a #15 on the head and ears (I was taught to use a #30!) leave a good length on the jacket to give the same look as being stripped if it wasn’t fluffy (most I could strip even after neutering but those that I couldn’t, then I’d use thinners), a #5 on the hind legs 😉 and insist that it came in every 8 weeks.
