Hi everyone,
We are planning to take home a new Cockapoo puppy sometime in April and will be hoping to learn from any dog owners their tips, advice and recommendations, especially from any dog owners in Loughborough and Leicestershire.
In the near future we need to find a vet and puppy trainer locally, so any help with regards to the good ones would be welcome. Comments too about those to avoid.
Many thanks
Jon
February 2, 2012 at 10:16 pm #106500SuzAndTheDivaMemberFrom a groomers point of view – please take it to a groomers as soon as its had its jabs, too many owners of these sort of crosses dont get them groomed till 6 months and it can then be a terrifying experience for them much better to start them off at 12 weeks.
re vets etc i cannot help there but good luck
February 3, 2012 at 7:22 pm #106501ValMemberAs another groomer I second Suz remarks, best place to find a good vet is in the local park dog owners know who the best are locally.
You do know both crosses for this dog should have eye tested parents and the pup should have been checked.
As for training when you have found a class go and have a look on training night without the dog. see if you like the type of training before you hand over your money
Good Luck
Val

February 6, 2012 at 11:38 pm #106508ValMemberWell if I must these dogs are mostly a walking disaster to start with most people who buy them have not a clue about health neither do they realise dogs coats grow and poodles are high maintenance add to this the people that do these crosses are only breeding out of sub standard dogs for money.
Health problems with the poodlesAddison’s Disease (standard)
Epilepsy (miniature and toy)
Hip Dysplasia (standard and miniature)
Hypothyroidism (standard, miniature, toy)
Legg Calve-Perthes (miniature and toy)
Patella Sub-luxation (miniature and toy)
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (standard, miniature, and toy).
Sebaceous Adenitis (standard)
Undescended Testicles (miniature and toy)
Von Willenbrands (standard)Cockers health note that some problems are the same as poodles so a nice double up >:(
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (Eye Disease)
Glaucoma (Eye Disease)
Cataracts
Familial Nephropathy (Fatal Kidney Disease)
Hip Dysplasia (Abnormal Development of the Hip Joint)
Auto-Immune Disease (This name covers a range of immune-related diseases such as, Hypothyroidism, Addisons Disease, Haemolytic Anaemia, and others)
May have missed some but what the heck Jemmima Puddleduck says they are healthy mongrels.
And do not get me started on the fine nails of a poodle stuck on the end of a cocker foot in ten ton of hair,or the round eye with a poodle coat sticking into the eye ball lets add eye ulcers to the list.
As the saying goes a fool and their money are soon parted.
And the vets get richer

February 7, 2012 at 6:43 pm #106511kizkiznobiteMemberhi and welcome…my home area…i come from copt oak 🙂
if you want help with pup am easy to find tho to be honest would ask why a crossbreed/mongrel instead of a cocker or poodle? …what you really need to think about is what you are thinking of buying is a x breed and whatever fancy name a breeder puts on that or fashion does 😉 you are paying money for what is basically a mongrel dog…now…i have no problem with cross breeds and mixes…i love all dogs…but …i do have a problem with breeders asking a ridiculous sum of money for what is a x breed given a fancy name in order to sell… or to pose as a fashion item…
both breeds have health issues and breeders like the breeder you thinking of buying from are not under any obligation to health test for any of the issues that affect each breed…
have a think hun
want to chat? contact me………
