Sorry if this has already been done before…

Dorain and Macduibh were both named after Scottish mountains (specifically Munros) that I had climbed. Ben Dorain is meant to be ‘Hill of the Small Stream’ or ‘Hill of the Otter’ – and Dorain does actually look quite otter like when he swims – brown nose poking out of water.  ;D Beinn Macduibh is ‘Hill of the Black Pig’ – and if you had ever seen him eat you would realise how apt that name was.  😀

    So, what about yours?

And what they would have been called once I got to know them… if I hadn’t already named them by then….

Dorain would have been Piglet.  😀 Partly because of how he ate  :-X and partly the ears… spot the difference….  ;D

And Duibh would have been Houdini…  ;D He could open properly closed crates from the inside… both bolts across…. no idea how – should have got a video camera cos I really did wonder.  😀 I wonder if it might be a plan with puppies not to name them till you know them a bit so you can get a name that fits.  ;D

Nacho was named after the shape of his ears and a Rangers football player – Nacho Novo
Bluebell was named after a beautiful but wild scottish flower
    Elsa came with her name.

Nacho would have been named Dyson (cos he is a hoover) or Mitre (cos he is ball obsessed)
Bluebell would have been called Cowbell cos she is a wee cow – little miss naughty – or wee sh*te however dont underestimate how loveable she is cos she is totally adorable.
Elsa would have been called Elsa – she suited her name well – and now she would be called Loved or Well Looked After or Healthy or anything positive that you could think of for a rescue – in fact she should have been aptly named Rescued

Nacho is very rarely called Nacho, always Noo Noo or Nooch
    Bluebell is called BB
    Elsa gets Ellie or Elsa

Aah, good thread!  Toby came with his name from the rescue home, we like to make variations on it, at the moment is Tobington McScrobington tho he probably thinks his name is Leave It at the mo!

william came with his, bonnie came with hers, all my foster dogs have come with names already tho misty came in called “tina” she was originally called misty and i re-instated that.

all the dogs i’ve had contact with or worked with have been named by other people except for “tiny clanger” a weeeeeny little scrap of a terrier that was stray and his owner came to get him the next day so he was only that for 1 day !!

Tam’s breeder gave all her dogs scottish pet names,I liked the idea. Tam was suppose to be a bitch puppy called Tanith but I fell in love with him. The only scottish boy’s name I liked was Tam which was close to Tanith.
Willow a friend helped me name, was stuck for a girls name, liked the name Willow as I thought it would suit a Willowy elegant rough collie. Instead she mainly gets called Puddles or Puddlepup which is just as well as she is clumsy and pigeoned toed ::)

Nell is named after my Gran and my Mum….both called Eleanor, although gran was called Nellie in the good old days.  🙂  Tane means “The One” in old Scots language.  Kite because he’s high as a kite when he works.   Lana is named after two of my dogs at Rainbow Bridge…..my first Ticket GSD Jhana, and her daughter Lola who died at less than one year old.  Drum is after Bill’s late Ticket dog Dram.
