Can I be pedantic and say that a hybrid is actually a cross between 2 related species, like horse x donkey or lion x tiger, and those are crossbreeds? 😉

Hmmm not sure… with birds, crossbreeds àre hybrieds. On shows they referred to as (for instance)
greenfinch x(cross) canary. Sectioned under ‘hybreed’  😉 .

Hinnys and ligers are infertile – but it doesn’t stop them being a hybrid – it just means they then can’t be mated – IYSWIM.

With small birds all hybreeds are infertile. Big birds like chickens are not. Actually don’t know why that’s so  ??? .

I think it depends on how close or similar the animals are genetically, like having the same or different numbers of chromosomes.
