Been to the vet with Sky today as she has a slight limp, I suspected it was Luxating Patella after reading the symptoms and this has been confirmed 🙁 Although its not the best news, its also not the worst!! As you can imagine I had all sorts going through my mind after what happened with Piper :'(
Our vet thinks its Grade 2 and that we should see how she goes. She runs absolutely fine and it doesnt affect her quality of life so until that changes we probably won’t consider the surgery. Although this would reduce the risk of arthritis later on, so we’ll see 🙂
The vet felt her other leg and also her hips and these felt fine, so thats good 🙂
I’ve bought some Mobile Bones supplement which looks good and has all the ingredients recommended by our vet – http://www.poochandmutt.com/mobilebones/ 🙂
Anyone else have any experience of Luxating Patella? Any suggestions gratefully received 🙂
Vet gave Sky the once over while we were there and all is fine, heart sounds good, right weight etc. She fell in love with her, especailly after Sky licked her to death lol 😀

Will help to tighten and strengthen the area, getting her used to a pool now will help if she develops arthritis later in life hydrotherapy again will help.Sorry to hear she has it, but glad its not seeming to affect her.

August 26, 2010 at 9:17 am #87983Lisa33Memberooh yes Nat get her swimming, it will do her the world of good! :ok:
August 26, 2010 at 11:51 am #87984ValMemberTry not to walk her on too much concrete as it’s very unforgiving on joints.
It is a problem within the breed swimming is ideal for both hips and knees
Nat has she had her eye checks?
ValAugust 26, 2010 at 12:33 pm #87985*Nat*MemberNo not done eye checks Val, it’s cateracts they are prone to isnt it? Is that something the vets do? Whats involved and what can I do if there’s something wrong?
I’m still trying to get hold of her papers but have informed the rescue of the problem with her knee!
I’ve spoken to our local hydrotherapy pool http://www.cherrytreehydrotherapy.co.uk/ and I’ve got a form for the vet to refer her 🙂 The lady said she’s be better off using the treadmill in the water as swimming involves them kicking the legs out more 🙂 First session is free then it’s £20!
August 26, 2010 at 12:46 pm #87986GracieMemberLooks good, £20 is not bad, and 1st session free is good. Are you insured? if the vet refers you may be able to claim it back on the insurance.
August 26, 2010 at 1:52 pm #87987AnonymousGuestHope she enjoys the swimming, hope it helps :-*
August 26, 2010 at 2:14 pm #87988*Nat*MemberYeah we are insured so will look into that 🙂
